Try Making Halal Ramen at a Hands-On Japanese Culture Center in Asakusa!

BUB ACTIVITY CENTER Asakusa

🍜 Introduction

Ramen is a must-try when visiting Japan. We’ve featured many great ramen restaurants on this site, but wouldn’t it be fun to make your own bowl of ramen?

At BUB ACTIVITY CENTER Asakusa, that dream comes true.

This cultural facility in Asakusa offers hands-on experiences of Japanese traditions for international visitors—including the chance to make your own ramen and eat it on the spot.

Even better, the ingredients are halal-friendly, so Muslim guests can enjoy the experience with peace of mind.

We were invited by the facility to try it ourselves—and here’s our full report!

📒 Report

 Now, let’s start making ramen!

The English-speaking instructor guided us kindly and patiently throughout the process.

Practical training

First, we were supposed to knead the dough ourselves.

But since we were on a tight schedule, the instructor had already prepared the kneaded dough for us in advance.

She carefully explained that the dough was made from wheat flour, water, and baking soda—no haram ingredients were used. That explanation made us feel truly at ease.

Next, we began rolling out the dough and shaping it into noodles. We used a rolling pin to stretch the dough....But wow, it’s harder than it looks!

Once the dough was rolled out, we used a pasta machine to cut it into noodles.

The staff helped us along the way, and thanks to their support, everything went smoothly!

Cutting noodles

It was interesting to see that the thickness of the noodles varied slightly depending on the person.

Finished noodles

Then it was time to boil the noodles—be sure to keep an eye on the clock so you don’t overcook them!

For the soup base, you can choose between soy sauce or miso.

I went with the soy sauce flavor.

They kindly provided halal soy sauce, too!

There were so many toppings to choose from, and we could decorate our ramen however we liked.

And… done!

The ramen I made with my own hands tasted absolutely amazing! ♪

🥢  About the Taste(halal ramen)

There’s no way ramen you made yourself could not be delicious!

In my case, I managed to roll out the dough quite well, so my noodles came out thin and long.I might have boiled them just a little too long… but they still had a nice texture and went down smoothly!

The seasoned boiled egg I added as a topping had a rich flavor, and the yolk was perfectly soft—absolutely delicious.

You can also adjust the soup seasoning yourself.I accidentally added a bit too much salt 😅…but honestly, it was such a rare and fun experience that I was completely satisfied!

While the facility doesn’t hold official halal certification, they proudly provide halal-friendly ingredients and accommodate Muslim guests. If you let them know in advance, they’ll prepare halal seasonings and toppings for you. Unfortunately, there’s no prayer room on-site—but Asakusa Mosque and the Prayer Room on the 5th floor of Tokyo Skytree are nearby, so you can plan accordingly.
