ALL HALAL with a Prayer Room – Rich Chicken Soup That Packs a Surprising Punch!?
halal ramen honolu ebisu

🍜 Introduction

This cozy spot serves up delicious halal ramen, with their signature being rich, creamy chicken paitan (white broth) ramen. You’ll also find seafood tsukemen and other flavorful variations. While the main branch is in Ebisu, they’ve expanded to Kansai and even Malaysia. The name “Honolu” comes from their dream to someday open a shop in Honolulu!

They proudly hold strict halal certification and even offer a prayer room for Muslim guests.

The other day, I stopped by around lunchtime right after Ramadan ended—and wow, there was a massive line of Muslim customers out front! I had no idea how long I’d have to wait for a bowl of ramen, so I gave up that day and came back later during a quieter lunch hour. It was totally worth the wait!。

t’s a bit of a walk from Ebisu Station, but if you hop on the famous “moving walkway,” it’s surprisingly easy to get there. This long automatic walkway stretches all the way from the station to the exit—no need to walk, just stand and enjoy the ride! Personally, I think the moving walkway itself is part of the Ebisu experience and worth trying. Near the end of the ride, look to your right—you’ll spot Honolu through the glass windows!

The restaurant is fully halal-certified, so Muslim diners can eat with peace of mind. Of course, no pork or alcohol is used, and all meat is halal-certified chicken or beef.

⭐️ Overall Score: 7.5 / 10

They have full halal certification, so you can enjoy truly halal ramen without worry. The chicken broth is incredibly rich and flavorful—definitely packs a punch! Though personally, I found it a bit too salty for my taste. The space inside is small and a little cluttered, but the staff’s warm hospitality more than makes up for it.

🍜 Food

3.0 / 5

There’s a fun variety of halal ramen to choose from, which adds to the experience. Their signature is the creamy chicken paitan, but they also offer ramen topped with grilled beef and even seafood tsukemen. Again, flavors lean toward the rich and salty side—some might love it, others might find it a bit much.

🙋‍♀️ Service

4.0 / 5

A Japanese male staff member who was taking care of guests was especially kind and friendly. It looked like the cooking was done by Muslim staff, which was reassuring to see.

🏠 Atmosphere

4.0 / 5

The restaurant has counter seating on the first floor and table seating upstairs, but overall it feels a bit cramped and busy. Still, there’s a small prayer room available, which is definitely a plus—even if it’s on the modest side.

"Yakiniku Ramen" 1700jpy(left

Since we visited as a pair, we decided to try different ramen dishes so we could share the experience. Both bowls were based on a rich chicken paitan broth, but the toppings were quite different.

My friend ordered the Special Chicken Paitan Noodles, which came beautifully topped with chicken chashu, a soft-boiled egg, and even karaage (fried chicken). It looked super fancy and satisfying!

I went with the Yakiniku Ramen, which had sweet and savory grilled beef on top. They called it “yakiniku,” but honestly, the beef was a little dry. Looking back… the Special Chicken Paitan Noodles not only looked better, but it was also 200 yen cheaper! Maybe I should’ve picked that one instead—oops.

The broth itself was a thick, chicken-based paitan packed with flavor. It had a strong punch and definitely left me full and satisfied, though I did find the saltiness a bit intense. It’s the kind of bowl that feels special for a trip or occasional treat, but probably too rich for everyday eating. That said, overall I really enjoyed it—it was tasty and a fun experience!

💬 ai-chan’s One-Line Review

A rich, unforgettable bowl—perfect for your Japan trip.

👤Great for travelers! Whether you’re dining solo or with a group, this place works for both. That said, the flavors are quite bold—maybe a bit too rich for everyday meals if you live in Japan. But as a special treat on your trip? Totally worth it.
